There’s a lot of emphasis on the importance of staging your home in order to add perceived value and bring in higher offers. With so many other details demanding your attention when selling a home, there’s no reason to get stressed out about staging. It really comes down to common sense and we don’t recommend spending more money than you need to. We’ll break it down for you!
Declutter and Depersonalize
These are two of the most important things you can do to make your home more appealing to potential buyers. And they cost nothing. Not everyone has the ability to envision what rooms look like without those piles of laundry on the bed or children’s toys all over the floor. Put what you can in storage and for items currently in use, keep them in covered totes in closets, in the attic or basement, or against the wall.
Hard as it may be, put those framed photos away! If the goal is to offer an environment that will allow potential buyers to see your home as their home, that’s difficult to achieve if they’re surrounded by photos of strangers’ weddings and children.
You don’t need to hire a landscaper to make the outside of your home look more attractive. Stick to basics that make a difference, tasks you can perform yourself. Weed your flowerbeds, trim shrubs, edge the walkways, and plant colorful flowers. Actually, a few vases of fresh flowers inside the house goes a long way as well.
A Coat or Two of Paint
Potential buyers need to walk into your home and be able to see themselves living there. While your daughter may have loved her fluorescent pink walls or you felt the bright spring green kitchen was cheerful, try to keep colors neutral. Instead of stark white, think cream, light tan, or pale gray. A bonus is neutral colors tend to make rooms look larger.
