South Twin Lake is located about 11 miles north and east of Eagle River, WI. Most of the lake is in the Town of Conover but some is in the Town of Phelps. South Twin Lake offers 628 acres and has a max depth of 43’. It has 3.6 miles of shoreline and almost 50% of the lake is deeper than 20’ deep. The water clarity is excellent with 3-4 m clarity according to UW Madison. It is connected to North Twin Lake which offers another 2788 acres. The two lakes together offer 3416 acres of water and over 12 miles of shoreline.
South Twin and North Twin have some similar characteristics. Clear, cold water, sand and gravel bottoms and both offer excellent fishing. While North Twin is the better known lake because of the trophies it has produced, South Twin warms up quicker and may be a better walleye lake. It may also be a better ice fishing lake.
There is one boat landing on the north shore of South Twin off of Twin Lake Road. There are two more boat landings on North Twin. One is just down the street on Twin Lake Rd and the other is in downtown Phelps. There is presently one bar on North Twin (Dublins).
South Twin has some nice real estate. It has one distinct advantage over North Twin in that most of the elevation on South Twin is gentle to level. Most of North Twin is elevated. The values on South Twin are good when compared with similar sized lakes and lake chains.
