Minocqua’s Winter Park – Attend a Winter Event
Minocqua Winter Park
In the Northwoods, we have a tremendous number of winter events. There’s the World Championship Snowmobile Derby, the USA Pond Hockey Tournament, the Radar Run, the Ice Cold Beer Fest, Blizzard Blast, and more. But a favorite destination that’s open as long as there’s enough snow to ski is the exceptional Minocqua Winter Park. Typically open December – March, it is truly a world class spot that makes winter a joy rather than something to endure. For over 40 years, the Minocqua Winter Park has provided a place for the silent sports that is incomparable. It is a non-profit town park operated by the Lakeland Ski Touring Organization. Minocqua Winter Park is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Minocqua via US 51 and WI Hwy 70 West. During their season, they are open daily from 9 – 5.
What is Skijoring?
Minocqua Winter Park’s vision is “Living our love of winter sports – sharing that love with the next generation.” It certainly brings that vision to life. You’ll find over 50 miles of trails groomed with state of the art equipment. You can snowshoe or cross country ski through 6,500 acres of gorgeous Northwoods wilderness. Other winter activities include snow tubing, ice skating on their rink (free ice skate rentals are available), fat tire snow biking, and, as Jim Cheshire points out in the video above, even skijoring! (For the curious, skijoring is a winter sport in which a person on skis is pulled by–in this case–a dog!).
We Embrace Winter
In Wisconsin’s Northwoods, we embrace winter! We’ll take our chilly, blue-skied, snowy days and add hot chocolate to them after our outdoor adventures. Many see our beautiful region primarily as a summer vacation spot. We won’t argue that summers are exceptional here and we love our boat rides along chains of lakes as much as anyone! Still, we invite you to visit us in all four seasons and experience our fun events, great dining, friendly taverns, and spectacular scenery year-round.
